Josh’s Story - Madrid Marathon

Hi, I'm Josh, and I'll be running the Madrid Marathon at the end of April in the hope of raising some money for It's Time charity. My Dad died in 2022 after a very short and aggressive cancer.

It feels appropriate to give a marathon a go as Dad would never sit still, he always believed in staying active and pushing yourself, and he continued to referee rugby, even after his first major surgery to try and remove the cancer.

Grief affects everyone differently, and you have no idea how it will affect you until it does. Looking back, those first few days and weeks after he died were probably the easy bit - the difficult bit is cracking on when the dust settles and can leave you feeling lost. It's Time charity is such a fantastic initiative to bring together a community and some great resources for bereaved young adults, and open a space to share or relate to the stories of others.

I'm lucky to have the support of a big family and with my brothers and sisters, we've all had tricky stages of life to navigate with Dad. So now, I want to raise money to help It’s Time continue supporting the young adults who are trying to navigate the world, whilst experiencing the loss and emptiness that my family have felt and continue to feel. Hopefully this is just the beginning of the help that we can offer to others, and raise as much money as possible for It's Time to support young adults.
