MEET THE TEAM

We’re really fortunate to have an amazing team of runners for this year’s London Landmarks Half Marathon! You can read their stories below and find a link to their JustGiving pages.

James’ Story:

I’m James and I’m running the LLHM with It’s Time charity after losing my Dad unexpectedly two years ago. I’ve been running for years but it is more important to me now than ever as it has helped lift me in times when I feel at my lowest. See you at the finish line🙂 you can donate here!

India’s Story:

I am running in memory of my Dad, Stephen Phillips, who passed away in 2020 after receiving a cancer diagnosis August 2019.

Navigating grief as young adult has been very difficult and often isolating, but having a charity like It's Time to support me has been fantastic.

I hope my fundraising will provide help for other people in similar situations and expand the community of young bereaved adults.

I look forward to running my first half marathon and raising as much as possible for It’s Time! You can find India’s JustGiving page here!

Ryan’s Story:

Hi I’m Ryan, 35 years young. I have always been active in various sports from swimming to boxing, cycling and running. Unfortunately, my body is running behind my mental age and I’ve had a number of surgeries inc heart surgery, 3 ankle surgeries inc 2 full reconstructions (one just 3 months ago) and a wrist ligament reconstruction. I recognise life is short and my 'active' life will be even shorter, so I like to set challenges to keep pushing the boundaries. This year will include the London Landmarks half marathon, a 14k Marathon Swim, Half Iron Man and a 24h cycle from London to Paris.

So, why am I running? Because right now I'm fortunate enough to be able to.

Why its time:

I still remember the morning my mother woke me up to say that dad had gone into cardiac arrest, and we need to get to the hospital asap, it was a journey that took forever. We arrived to be told the good news that they had revived him, but the overall prognosis didn't look good. A week early my Dad had gone to hospital with a suspected chest infection that turned out to be pneumonia, he was transferred from an NHS hospital to a private clinic in Harley Street and put on a ventilator.

That morning we slowly started to get snips of details of what had happened, after going through daily treatment procedures his heart rate started to drop and a nurse noticed his ventilator tube, had slipped a few centimetres out of place but failed to pass the information on to the Doctor. In the meantime, he went into cardiac arrest, and it took 15 minutes to resuscitate him due to missing information about no clear airways. Unfortunately, there was too much irreversible damage done in these 15 mins with no oxygen and so days later we made the decision, as a family, to turn off his life support.

My Dad was the sole provider for the family so the following years, which involved a lengthy 5-year court case (resulting in an admission of medical negligence) were tiring for the family.

Stefan’s Story:

I'm running in memory of my Dad Steve Sharratt who we lost to cancer when I was 14 years old. When I found out about it's time, I thought it was such a fantastic cause as I know it can be difficult to know who to turn to when you're young and struggling to deal with grief. I'm hoping to raise as much as I can for them in my first ever half marathon!

As part of his fundraising, Stefan organised a five-a-side football tournament.

The winning team was "Deeney in a Bottle" and the tournament raised over £300!

Ana’s Story:

Losing my mom at 17 was a defining moment of my life, teaching me the importance of community and support in overcoming grief. 'It's Time' offers the kind of support that was crucial for me during those tough times. They provide resources, guidance, and a community for young individuals struggling with loss, helping them to find resilience and hope.
